(McMINNVILLE) - Newcomer Rachel Miles scored three goals and Stephanie Gilchrist, back from a season-long injury, got two as Linfield’s women’s soccer team thrashed Buena Vista of Iowa 6-0 Monday in a nonconference game.
In their strongest offensive performance in years, the Wildcats launched 37 shots –- 19 of them on target -- to Buena Vista’s one and controlled the action with crisp passing.
Linfield improved to 1-1 and Buena Vista slipped to 0-2-1, both losses coming on its four-day visit to the Willamette Valley.

(FOREST GROVE) - THE TEST ONLY GETS TOUGHER: The string of four matches against nationally ranked opponents that began the 2006 Pacific volleyball season may have been the easy part of the non-conference schedule. The Boxers travel this week to the Washington University National Invitational in St. Louis, where Pacific will face four more nationally rank foes, including No. 2 Wittenberg and No. 5 Washington (Mo.).
#24 SOUTHWESTERN DEF. PACIFIC 30-24, 30-19, 30-28: Pacific opened the 2006 season with a solid effort against Southwestern, losing in three games to the No. 24 ranked team in the nation Friday night.

UC Davis, Gonzaga and Xavier are the other teams participating. (LAS VEGAS, Nev.) - Junior midfielder Hiroshi Nishito scored in his Oregon State debut, helping send the Beaver men’s soccer team to a 3-0 victory at UNLV on Sunday afternoon in the UNLV adidas Invitational.
Nishito (Tokyo, Japan) redshirted last year and didn’t play in the Beavers’ first three games this season. His goal in the 66th minute broke a scoreless tie, and sophomore midfielder Josh Cameron (Gresham, Ore./Centennial HS) and sophomore forward Robby Christner (Springfield, Ore./Thurston HS) followed with goals in the 81st and 86th minutes, respectively.

(MCMINNVILLE) - Scott Carnahan has announced that the 2007 season will be his last as Linfield College head baseball coach.
Carnahan, who will remain as Linfield’s director of athletics, plans to step down next May from the coaching position he has held since 1984.

(LOS ANGELES, Calif.) - The Oregon soccer team got on the scoreboard for the first time in 2006, but it wasn’t enough to overcome a pair of Loyola Marymount goals as the Lions escaped with a 2-1 decision Sunday at Sullivan Field. The loss dropped the Ducks to 0-3-0 on the season.
“We simply aren’t playing very well right now,” said Oregon head coach Tara Erickson. “It’s really frustrating to start the season 0-3. We’re still trying to find the right combinations that are going to work for us and obviously we aren’t quite there yet.”

(CORVALLIS) - Sophomore midfielder Kelsey Provo scored her first two collegiate goals and junior forward Jodie Taylor had a goal and two assists to lead the Oregon State women’s soccer team to a 5-1 rout of UAB at the OSU Nike Invitational on Sunday at Lorenz Field. A late goal gave Northern Colorado a 1-0 win over Cal State Northridge in the day’s first game.
Though not a true tournament, Oregon State claimed first place in the 2006 Nike Invitational thanks to its two wins this weekend. Northern Colorado and Cal State Northridge both had a win and a loss, but UNC took second place due to today’s victory over CSUN. UAB finished with two losses and fourth place.
“It’s exciting to win our own tournament but I think the more exciting thing was the way we performed today by putting all the components together,” OSU Coach Steve Fennah said.

(CALDWELL, Idaho) - In its first match of the season against a nationally-ranked opponent, Corban's women's volleyball team fell in three straight games (17-30, 17-30, 19-30) to the NAIA's No. 16-ranked Lady Coyotes of Albertson College of Idaho on Saturday night.
Senior Hallie Hofferd paced Corban with a team-high 12 kills, while sophomore Jessica McGraw added 10 kills and a team-high 16 assists.
In the first game, the Warriors were up by a point (7-6) before Albertson scored 6 unanswered points to take a 12-7 lead behind four kills by the Lady 'Yotes Katie Hogue.
