Salem-News.com Sports (August 02, 2006 23:40)Team USA Shuts Out Hong Kong Salem-News.com SPORTSInternational Baseball Federation Women's World Cup. (TAIPEI, Taiwan) - Three Team USA pitchers combined for the shutout in a 12-0 win over Hong Kong Thursday at Tienmu Baseball Stadium.
Starter Molly McKesson (1-0) tossed two hitless innings, striking out two and walking two, before giving way to Trista Russo, who also held Hong Kong hitless in two innings while striking out five. Ashley Cook fanned three in a scoreless inning to close the game.
Third baseman Donna Mills was instrumental in the offensive effort for the second consecutive day, driving in three runs on a sacrifice fly and a double. Outfielder Lilly Jacobson also drove in three runs while batting 2 for 3 at the plate.

Salem-News.com Sports (August 01, 2006 23:09)Oregon State Swimmer Kayla Rawlings Makes Canadian National Team Salem-News.com SPORTS(MONTREAL, QUEBEC) - Oregon State sophomore swimmer Kayla Rawlings has made the Canadian National team and will compete in the Pan Pacific Swimming Championships from August 17-21 in Victoria, British Columbia.
Rawlings used a time of 2:13.56 to earn a third place finish in the 200 butterfly at the Canadian Nationals and garner a spot on the Canadian National team.
Over 300 of the world’s top swimmers will compete in the Pan Pacific Swimming Championships. The field includes teams from Canada, the United States, Australia, Japan, China, New Zealand, Chile, Hong Kong, South Africa, Singapore and Argentina.

Salem-News.com Sports (August 01, 2006 11:51)Keizer Knights Fall Season Tryouts Saturday Salem-News.com SPORTS(KEIZER) - The Keizer Knights’ are forming a U-12 team and a U-10 team for the Junior Baseball of Oregon fall program.
Players that want to try out for either team should attend a session at 9:00 AM Saturday at Chemawa Indian School, 3700 Chemawa Rd. N.
The fall season begins Aug. 27th and runs for seven consecutive Sundays.
Doubleheaders will be scheduled each week for a total of 14 games.

Salem-News.com Sports (August 01, 2006 11:39)Newcomers Bolster Western Oregon Women’s Soccer Roster Salem-News.com SPORTS(MONMOUTH) - Western Oregon's 2006 soccer roster will feature some talented newcomers, combining with 13 returning letterwinners this fall.
Recent commitments to the program include heralded incoming freshmen Kylee Krous and Sarah Skotte. Krous, a forward/midfielder from Vancouver, Wash., was a first team Greater St. Helen's League pick in 2005 while at Hudson's Bay High School.
She was a four-year starter, and starred for three seasons with the Columbia Premiere Soccer Club.
Skotte was the Intermountain League Player of the Year while at Mountain View High School in Bend last fall.

Bobby Felmy’s fifth inning two run home run off Jeremy Papelbon broke a 5-5 tie and was the difference in the game making a loser out of Boise starter Alfredo Francisco (4-1).
D.J. Lewis hit his third home run of the season in the second inning off Salem-Kaiser starter Kevin Pucetas to get the scoring under way for Boise.
Elvin Puello later drove in Steve Clevenger who had a double and a triple on the night. Tyler Colvin had an RBI single in the third inning, but after Lewis brought Colvin in with the fourth Hawks run Steve Calicutt came in from the bullpen and no-hit the Hawks for three and a third innings.
Ryan Paul followed with two shutout innings before Clevenger got his triple in the ninth and scored on a ground out. Read Full Article

Salem-News.com Sports (July 30, 2006 14:46)Witter Home Run Stuns Boise Salem-News.com SPORTS(BOISE, ID) - The Salem-Keizer Volcanoes stunned the Boise Hawks Friday night, 5-3 in the first game of a five game series between the top two teams in the Northwest League.
Adam Witter, who entered the game in the sixth inning as a pinch hitter and tagged reliever Alex Maestri for an RBI single, hit a two-run home run off the Hawks reliever in the top of the ninth inning to give the Volcanoes a margin of victory.
The Hawks erased a 3-0 deficit with a three run rally in the sixth inning.
Josh Lansford and Russ Canzler had RBI singles and D.J. Lewis drove in the tying run with a ground out to even the score. Read Full Article

Salem-News.com Sports (July 30, 2006 14:40)Willamette Football Getting Ready to Face New Foes in 2006 Salem-News.com SPORTS(SALEM) - Willamette coach Mark Speckman and the Bearcat football team will face some new foes this coming season in a schedule packed with Division III football teams.
After opening the season at home in McCulloch Stadium against in-state rival Western Oregon University, Sept. 2nd at 7:00 PM.
The Bearcats will host Gustavus Adolphus the following Saturday, Sept. 9th at 1:30 PM.
The Golden Gusties, out of the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) were 3-7 last season and will open their season here against the Bearcats.

JELD-WEN has extended its title sponsorship of the tournament for an additional four years.
As a result of working with the Champions Tour to expand the tournament’s nationwide audience, JELD-WEN also confirmed network TV coverage of weekend rounds on NBC for three of the next four years, excluding the Olympic year 2008.

Salem-News.com Sports (July 25, 2006 19:11)Winter Hawks Danish Forward Signs NHL Contract Salem-news.com SPORTS(PORTLAND) - Portland Winter Hawks' forward Jannik (YANN-ick) Hansen from Denmark signed a National Hockey League contract today with the Vancouver Canucks.
Hansen, 20, appeared in his first season in the WHL in 2005-06 where he scored 24 goals and 40 assists for 64 points and 67 penalty minutes in 53 games with the Hawks. The first player from Denmark to ever play in the Western Hockey League since the league started in 1966-67, Hansen finished second in team scoring and 19th overall in scoring in the WHL.
He also finished second on the Winter Hawks in team scoring in 12 post-season games where he collected 7 goals and 6 assists for 13 points and 16 penalty minutes.
