(Newport) - Each February for nearly three decades, seafood and wine enthusiasts have gathered in Newport to enjoy the taste of the Northwest. This year marks the 29th consecutive year of the Newport Seafood and Wine Festival, to be held February 24th through the 26th. The event continues to be one of the largest of its kind in the United States.

Zapotec Weaver to Speak Out at Mission Mill Museum

(Salem) - Pastora Gutierrez, a Zapotec weaver from Teotitlan del Valle, Oaxaca, Mexico, will discuss her experiences as a member and director of La Vida Nueva, a women`s weaving collective, at Mission Mill Museum on Friday, Feb. 3 at noon. Juanita Rodriguez of Corvallis will translate.

Big Rainstorm Causes 6,000 to Go Without Power

(Salem) - PGE crews responded all night to power outages throughout the Salem area and beyond, due to high winds and stormy weather. At the height of the storm, about 6,000 customers were without power. Additional crews were called in to work overnight and the Customer Call Center was opened early to respond to calls.

(Canby) - High water isn't just in the areas around rivers and creeks. According to the Canby Fire District, the low areas in fields in the Canby area are full of water that is now getting on the roadways. The same is true for much of western Oregon at this time.

(Salem) - The Oregon Department of Transportation has reported that heavy rain and wind overnight caused a number of problems for drivers using state highways in Northwest Oregon. High water, downed trees and mudslides have caused hazardous driving conditions and a number of road closures.

Health Officials Say Meningococcal Cases Should Prompt Vigilance, Not Alarm

(Salem) - Public health officials in the Oregon Department of Human Services (DHS) said Monday that the recent meningitis death of a Yamhill County teen and reports of four additional cases in the greater Portland area do not indicate a widespread outbreak.

Flooded Roads Remain Closed in Marion County

(Salem) - More rains overnight continue to add to local flooding problems around Marion County. The following roads are closed. These closures include River Road South, which is a connecting road between South Salem and Independence. Please take the time to drive alternate routes and avoid areas that are marked with high water signs.

Salem Floodplain Ordinance Revision May Reduce Flood Insurance Rates

(Salem) - A public hearing is scheduled before the Salem Planning Commission on Tuesday, January 24, at 5:30 PM, to consider revisions to Salem's floodplain ordinance. The proposed code revisions are the first step toward Salem's application to the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) for inclusion in the Community Rating System (CRS).

State Police Saturate Interstate With Unmarked Cars and an Eye in The Sky

(Salem) - It was a bad day to speed on Oregon's Interstate-5. State Police troopers were out in force with a multi-faceted approach at slowing drivers down. Tools used Monday in the state trooper saturation patrol included a police aircraft and an unmarked Camaro with a sticker in the back window that read, "Drive it like you stole it."
