Beavers Perry, Stroughter Earn More Preseason Honors

The 2007 season opener is Thurs., Aug. 30 against the Utah Utes at Reser Stadium.

(CORVALLIS, Ore. ) - OSU Jeremy PerryOregon State University senior wide receiver/punt returner Sammie Stroughter and junior offensive guard Jeremy Perry have been named to the CBS Sportsline Second Team All-American squads.

Stroughter is coming off a 2006 season that featured him earning Associated Press Third Team All-American honors.

Perry is a member of the preseason "watch lists" for the Outland and Lombardi Awards.

Viking Football Introduces New Uniforms and Logo

The spear logo, created by Nike, will serve as a secondary logo for the football program.

(PORTLAND, Ore. ) - Vikings new uniformsPortland State's new look was introduced at Football Media Day Tuesday, as the Vikings showed off their new uniforms and football logo, all designed by Nike.

The Viking uniforms lean heavily toward Glanville's favored black color scheme, while the helmets will have the new spear logo running over the crown.

Barry Bonds joined the pantheon of the baseball gods Tuesday night at AT&T Park by hitting his 756th homer, passing the legendary Hank Aaron to take over perhaps Major League Baseball's most hallowed record: first place on the all-time home run list.

The homer, Bonds' 22nd of the season, ended Aaron's more than 33-year reign as MLB's home run king.

Cano, Crawford Share AL Player of the Week Honors

This marks the second weekly award for Cano this season, having shared honors with Crawford's teammate, B.J. Upton, just two weeks ago.

(NEW YORK) - Yankees Robinson CanoNew York Yankees second baseman Robinson Cano and Tampa Bay Devil Rays outfielder Carl Crawford have been named American League Co-Players of the Week for the period ending August 5th.

Crawford hit .591 (13-22) with a double, three home runs and six RBI.

Cano posted a .478 batting average (11-23) with a 1.087 slugging percentage and a .556 on-base percentage.

Webb, Zimmerman Named NL Players of the Week

Among the achievements of note last week were the record-tying 755th career home run by Barry Bonds and the 300th career win by Tom Glavine.

(NEW YORK) - Diamondbacks Brandon WebbArizona Diamondbacks pitcher Brandon Webb, who went 2-0 and threw a complete game shutout, and Washington Nationals third baseman Ryan Zimmerman, who hit .519 (14-27), have been named the National League Co-Players of the Week for the period of July 30th-August 5th.

Zimmerman led the N.L. with 14 hits and 24 total bases, helping lead Washington to a 6-0 week.

Webb led the N.L. with two wins and recorded a 0.00 ERA over 16 innings pitched.

(OAKLAND, Calif. ) - Warriors Matt BarnesThe Golden State Warriors have re-signed free agent forward Matt Barnes, it was announced Monday by Executive Vice President of Basketball Operations Chris Mullin.

Per team policy, terms of the agreement were not announced.

Barnes, 27, appeared in a career-high 76 games with the Warriors last season, averaging career-best figures in scoring (9.8), rebounding (4.6), assists (2.1) and minutes played (23.9).

Oregon Now Offering Youths Simplified, Safe Intro to Hunting

Other states that have similar programs have seen an increase in youth participation without a single hunting-related shooting incident.

"Oregon's hunters now have a fantastic opportunity to introduce kids to hunting," said Marla Rae, Commission Chair.
