Salem-News.com Sports (July 23, 2007 12:32)Baseball Mourns Death of Minor League Coach Mike Coolbaugh Salem-News.com SPORTSCoolbaugh, 35, had played pro ball since 1990 and had 44 games of Major League service with Milwaukee and St. Louis. (NORTH LITTLE ROCK, Ark.) - Tulsa Drillers hitting coach Mike Coolbaugh was hit on the head by a line drive while coaching first base in the ninth inning on Sunday.
Coolbaugh was attended to by medical personnel who were on site and taken to Springhill Baptist Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 9:47 p.m.
Coolbaugh is survived by his wife Mandy, and two young sons Jacob and Joseph. Read Full Article

(KEIZER, Ore. ) - Clayton Conner plated a career-high five runs, but it wasn't enough as visiting Yakima fell to Salem-Keizer, 9-6, on Sunday.
Conner lifted a sacrifice fly in the first inning and cranked a grand slam in the third for his third homer.
Bruce Edwards went 4-for-5 with two RBIs and Andrew Davis homered and drove in three runs for the Volcanoes (27-6).

(CARNOUSTIE, Scotland) - Padraig Harrington has become the first Irish winner of The Open Championship since Fred Daly in 1947.
He clinched the title in nail-biting fashion in a four-hole play-off with Sergio Garcia of Spain.

(EUGENE, Ore. ) - Kellen Kulbacki and Keith Conlon both homered and had four hits as Eugene routed visiting Tri-City, 12-4, on Sunday.
Kulbacki went 4-for-5 and belted his second homer with Conlon aboard in the sixth inning.
The 21-year-old right-fielder also doubled and scored in a six-run first and ripped an RBI single to center field in the second. Read Full Article

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - The Portland State football team has been selected to place second in the Big Sky Conference preseason polls as voted on by both the coaches and media in the league.
Portland State, which was 7-4 in 2006, and tied for second in the Big Sky at 6-2, was picked to finish behind conference-favorite Montana in 2007.
The 2007 season begins a new era for Portland State football as Head Coach Jerry Glanville took over this past spring, installing the 3-4 defense he was famous for at numerous coaching stops. Read Full Article

(EDMONTON, Alberta ) - Heading into the Rexall Grand Prix of Edmonton there was a three-way battle for the top spot in the Series Championship, but after the checkered flag flew, three-time Champion Sebastien Bourdais showed his experience by winning the event at Rexall Speedway and built himself a 20 point lead in the standings.
As Bourdais flourished on Sunday, the two main competitors found nothing but trouble.

Scott Dixon and Helio Castroneves agreed pit strategy proved decisive.
Dixon wound up in Victory Circle for the third consecutive race weekend (tying an IndyCar Series record held by teammate Dan Wheldon and Kenny Brack) by leading Franchitti to the checkers by 2.6917 seconds. Castroneves, the pole sitter, finished third.

Garret Baker, who went 2-for-4 with a solo homer, snapped a 2-2 tie with a two-run single before Rothford clubbed his fifth homer of the season.
Jeremiah Luster and Matthew Downs each drove in a run for the Volcanoes (26-6), who ended a two-game skid.
