(SALEM) - Sophomore right-handed pitcher/designated player Nikki Franchi from Willamette University have been named Third Team NFCA Division III All-West Region for the 2007 season, as selected by the West Region head coaches.
Franchi was Willamette’s top pitcher this spring with a 10-8 record and 144 strikeouts in 122 2/3 innings.
She set school records with 144 strikeouts and 8.22 strikeouts per seven innings pitched. Read Full Article

(CHARLOTTE, N.C.) - The Charlotte Bobcats, Sprint Nextel and Lowe's Motor Speedway have announced that NBA great Michael Jordan will serve as grand marshal for the May 19th NASCAR Nextel All-Star Challenge.
Jordan, the managing member of basketball operations for the Bobcats, will give the command to start engines.
"It is an honor and privilege for me to serve as the grand marshal of the NASCAR Nextel All-Star race," Jordan said. "Having the opportunity to take part in this event is a tremendous thrill."

(KLAMATH FALLS, Ore.) - Oregon Institute of Technology student and baseball player Robert J. Draminski III, 19, died early Monday morning when his car collided head-on with a logging truck on Highway 97 south of Klamath Falls.
The crash happened at about 7:30 AM, about a mile north of the state line when Draminski, of San Jose, California was driving southbound and crossed the centerline, striking the oncoming truck driven by Nels Jorgenson, 44, of Klamath Falls.

After corralling the last of his 10 offensive and 20 total rebounds, Boozer connected on a short left-handed shot in the lane with 17 seconds on the clock to break a tie and give Utah a 1-0 series lead with a 116-112 Game 1 win over the visiting Warriors on Monday.
Golden State also had five players score in double figures, led by Baron Davis' 24 points.

(NEWBERG, Ore. ) - Four members of the 2007 George Fox University softball team - Kayla Winkler, Nikki Morrison, Kerstyn Tsuruda, and Ashley Olson - have received All-Northwest Conference honors of one kind or another as voted on by the league’s eight coaches and announced recently by the conference.
Winkler was named to the All-NWC Second Team as a utility player, while Morrison, Tsuruda, and Olson all received Honorable Mention, Morrison and Tsuruda as utility players and Olson as a first baseman.
The Bruins were 7-29 overall under third-year coach Mark Vergets, winning six more than the year before. Read Full Article
