(PHOENIX) - If Sunday's Game 1 is any type of indicator of what type of series to expect, the Western Conference semifinal matchup between the Suns and Spurs will end up being an action-packed series that will come down to the wire.
Steve Nash, bloodied from a collision earlier in the fourth quarter, buried a 3-pointer to pull Phoenix even at 102-102 with 2:23 to play.
But Tim Duncan and Tony Parker responded with consecutive baskets for a four-point lead that San Antonio never relinquished in a 111-106 road win in the series opener.

(McMINNVILLE, Ore.) - A school-record nine Linfield players - one representing each position on the field - were named to the Northwest Conference all-star softball team following a vote of the league’s eight coaches.
Eight Wildcats were selected to the first team.
Jackson Vaughan was named conference coach of the year for the fourth straight season, Jenny Marshall was voted NWC Player of the Year, and Brittany Miller was recognized as the NWC’s top pitcher. Read Full Article

(SALEM) - Junior Lindsay Batey was the lone Corban softball player on this season's All-Cascade Conference Team when the squad was announced Saturday after an outstanding season that included a team-leading nine home runs.
Batey, a 5-foot-9 corner infielder, led the Warriors in 11-out-of-22 offensive categories, including batting average (.310), slugging percentage (.602), on-base percentage (.418), runs scored (24), hits (35), runs batted in (21), doubles (6), home runs (9), total bases (68), walks (20), and total plate appearances (134). After Tracy McGrady brought the Rockets to within two on a layup with 9.8 ticks left, Andrei Kirilenko hit two free throws to help Utah seal a 103-99 Game 7 win on Saturday and advance to the second round.

(SEATTLE) - Jason Ogata hit Oregon State’s first inside-the-park home run in over three years but the ninth-ranked Beavers lost to Washington 9-6 in Pac-10 baseball Saturday afternoon at Husky Ballpark.
OSU (34-11 overall, 6-8 Pac-10) saw Washington (23-20, 8-6) score six runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to take the lead for good.

(CORVALLIS, Ore.) - The fifth-ranked and defending national champion University of Arizona softball team proved to be too much to handle as No. 15 ranked Oregon State dropped a 10-1 decision in five innings to the Wildcats in front of a school record crowd of 1,008 at the OSU Softball Complex on Saturday.
The crowd was the largest to ever witness a game in the OSU Softball Complex, breaking the previous record of 976 set on May 4th, 2002 against top-ranked UCLA.
Arizona (37-10-1; 13-3-1 Pac-10) used a bases clearing double by Kristi Fox to open the game’s scoring in the top of the third. Read Full Article

The 3-year-old son of Street Cry completed the 1 ¼-miles in 2:02.17 and paid $11.80, $6.40, and $4.60 as the tepid post time favorite.

(SALEM) - Senior third baseman Molly Barnes and sophomore right-handed pitcher/designated player Nikki Franchi from Willamette University have been named First Team All-Northwest Conference for the 2007 season, as selected by the NWC head coaches.
Willamette players Liz Gilgan and Geneva Hale were Second Team All-NWC selections, while LaShawna Holcomb earned Honorable Mention.
Overall, 16 players were named First Team All-NWC, while 16 players received Second Team All-NWC recognition. Read Full Article
