Oregon Women Fall in Double Overtime at USC, 79-71

The Ducks moved to 9-4 overall, and 1-2 in the Pac-10 with the loss.

(LOS ANGELES) - The University of Oregon women’s basketball team led by two points and had the ball with 21 seconds to play in regulation, but couldn’t close things out against USC on Friday night at the Galen Center, falling 79-71 in double overtime.

The Ducks were called for a five-second violation on an inbounds play in the waning moments, giving USC a chance to play for a final shot.

Senior guard Shay Murphy took advantage, tying the score at 52-52 on a short jumper with a little more than 10 seconds left and sending the game into overtime.

Carras Carries Warriors to Victory Over Evergreen

With the win, Corban improves to 12-5 overall.

(OLYMPIA, Wash.) - Senior Brianne Carras scored a team-high 18 points on 8-for-12 shooting from the field, as Corban's women's basketball team earned a slim one-point victory, 63-62, over the Geoducks of The Evergreen State College on Friday.

Making her final trip back home of her career, Carras paced a balanced Corban attack despite being in foul trouble for a majority of the game.

The 5-foot-11 Olympia-native grabbed 8 rebounds and recorded 2 steals in 22 minutes of action.

Guard Tandem Paces Warriors in Loss to Geoducks

With the loss, Corban drops to 1-16 overall, 0-6 in Cascade Collegiate Conference action.

(SALEM) - Senior Nate Morris and sophomore Kyle Masten paced the Warriors with 16 points each on a combined 10-for-19 shooting from the field, but it was not enough as Corban's men's basketball team fell to the Geoducks of Evergreen State, 86-72, on Friday.

After spending most of December at home playing six straight home games, Corban opened the New Year on the road.

A change of scenery did not end the Warriors' winless drought, as Corban dropped its 12th straight contest this season.

Bearcats Hold Off Boxers For 66-62 Victory

Mansfield scores 16 points, McClary adds 15, for Willamette.

(SALEM) - Willamette University led Pacific University by as many as 11 points in the second half, but Pacific pulled within a single point four times in the final 11:31, including 63-62, with 1:32 left on the clock.

All four times Willamette scored the next basket, including a jumper by Ian Mansfield with 38 seconds left, as the Bearcats held off the Boxers, 66-62, in a Northwest Conference game at Cone Field House.

After Mansfield’s basket gave WU a 65-62 lead, the Bearcats forced Pacific to miss two three-pointers the rest of the way.

Willamette Edges Pacific, 71-66, in OT

With the win the Bearcats moved to 1-2 in the NWC.

(SALEM) - Willamette University senior forward Kari Woody (Boise, ID/Timberline HS) forced overtime with a 10-foot jump shot with four seconds left, then the Bearcats outscored Pacific University, 12-7, in overtime, as WU defeated the Boxers, 71-66, in a Northwest Conference game at Cone Field House.

Maggie Wilkens led four Willamette players in double figures, as she scored 13 points and was 6 of 9 from the field.

Wilkens also grabbed five rebounds. Payne added 12 points and a team-high seven boards, while Fujioka finished with 11 points and Tracie Nygaard (Jr., F, Knappa, OR/Knappa HS) earned 10 points.

Bruins Inaugurate ’07 With Win Over Missionaries

George Fox (6-5, NWC 2-1) hosts 6th-ranked and unbeaten (12-0) Whitworth College and Whitman (3-8, NWC 0-3) visits Linfield College Saturday in conference games at 6:00 PM, following women’s games at 4:00 PM.

(NEWBERG) - Led by Phil Heu-Weller’s game-high 19 points, 14 in the second half, the George Fox University Bruins inaugurated the 2007 portion of their schedule with a 77-63 win over the Whitman College Missionaries in Northwest Conference men’s basketball action Friday night at the Wheeler Sports Center’s Miller Gym.

There were four ties and four lead changes in the first ten minutes of the game, with neither team leading by more than four during that time.

The Bruins went ahead 19-18 on a three-pointer by Brady Strutz with 10:36 left and led throughout the remainder of the period.

(NEWBERG) - Seizing control with a 16-7 run in the last eight minutes of the first half, the George Fox University Bruins resumed Northwest Conference play and got the new year started on a winning note with a 52-37 defensive gem over the Whitman College Missionaries in a women’s basketball game Friday night at the Wheeler Sports Center’s Miller Gym.

Whitman took an early 4-0 lead on baskets by Michelle Krall and Kristina Francis before the Bruins responded with an 8-0 run, sparked by a jumper and two free throws from Elise Kuenzi.

Beaver Swimmers Beat NAU, Fall to Arizona

The Beavers return to action Saturday at 11:00 AM when they travel to Tempe, Ariz. to meet Arizona State.

(TUCSON, Ariz.) - After more than four weeks off from competition, the Oregon State swim team split its duel meet against the University of Arizona and Northern Arizona University.

The Beavers (5-6, 0-3 Pacific-10 Conference) beat NAU 171-123 and fell to the No. 2 Wildcats 97-189.

Showing no sings of rust, Kayla Rawlings began 2007 as she finished 2006.

Oregon State's Canham Earns Preseason All-America

OSU opens its 2007 season with a four-game series Jan. 25th-27th at Hawaii-Hilo.

(CORVALLIS) - Oregon State catcher Mitch Canham has been named to the Louisville Slugger Preseason All-America Baseball Team, as selected by Collegiate Baseball newspaper.

Canham (Lake Stevens, Wash./Lake Stevens HS), a junior, was a second-team pick.

Canham is coming off a 2006 season in which he helped Oregon State to the national championship and a 50-16 record; the Beavers won the Pacific-10 title and reached the College World Series for the second straight season.
