Salem-News.com Sports (October 17, 2006 23:55)Perrydale Pirates Sail Away With Three Wins Tina Miller, Salem-News.comOSD Panthers travel to play Perrydale Pirates (PERRYDALE) - The Oregon School for the Deaf Panthers Volleyball team hit the road on Tuesday to take on the Perrydale Pirates. The Pirates had the Panthers number and took a win in all three match-ups.
This is the second match up this season for these two teams, not including tournament games. When the Pirates traveled to OSD in September, they won all three. The two teams recently played each other in the OSD Volleyball Invitational, with both teams posting a win and playing a third game to determine which team would go to the final round. The Pirates went on to play the eventual tournament winning Eddyville Eagles.
This match-up is only the second in the last ten meetings that OSD has had to venture from home. The score in the first game was Perrydale 25, OSD 14.

The Olympians (4-3 overall, 3-0 CVC) ride a 4-game winning streak into Friday night’s home game with the Redmond Panthers.
During the streak, Sprague’s offense has come alive and is averaging 36 points per game.
The Panthers (4-3 overall, 2-1 CVC) are on a 3-game win streak, and will rely on their defense to keep the Olys offense in check.

Salem-News.com Sports (October 17, 2006 22:43)Linfield Wins NWC Southern Division Four-Way Golf Tournament #4 Salem-News.com SPORTSWillamette finishes second. (SALEM) - Linfield won the NWC Southern Division Four-Way Tournament #4, as the Wildcats shot a combined 307 strokes over the 18-hole event.
With the victory, Linfield completed a sweep of first place finishes at the Southern Division Four-Way Tournaments this fall. Playing at full strength for the first time this season, Willamette University took second place with a team score of 330.
The Bearcats were followed by Lewis & Clark College at 340 and by Pacific University at 355. The tournament was hosted by Willamette University at Illahe Hills Country Club in Salem.

Salem-News.com SPORTS(CORVALLIS) - The opportunity for local basketball coaches to learn from former NBA assistant coaches Bob Kloppenburg and Tex Winter is coming up quickly, as the two legendary coaches are the lead speakers at the Oregon State Basketball Coaches Clinic on Saturday.
Kloppenburg has nearly a half-century of coaching experience from high school to the NBA, most notably 12 years with the Seattle Supersonics as their defensive coordinator. He helped develop the pressure defense used throughout the game today, and he has given clinics all over the world teaching his SOS Pressure Defense system.
Winter developed the Triangle Offense, which won nine NBA championships in a span of 12 years when he was an assistant coach with the Chicago Bulls and Los Angeles Lakers.

(SALEM) - The Bearcats won the team title at the Willamette University Women’s Invitational on Monday, recording a score of 373 at the Illahe Hills Country Club to edge Linfield College, which shot 375.
In the medalist race, Linfield’s Leslie Wheeler shot a 79 (39-40) to take first place, while Whitney Ueno of Willamette finished second with an 83 (41-42).
Full teams from Willamette and Linfield, plus two golfers from George Fox University, competed in the Northwest Conference Southern Division event.

(CORVALLIS) - The Oregon State trio of wide receiver Sammie Stroughter, linebacker Derrick Doggett and kicker Alexis Serna have been named U.S. Bank Pac-10 Football Players of the Week.
Stroughter, a junior from Roseville, Calif., had seven receptions for a career-high 223 yards (31.9-yard average), including an 80-yard touchdown reception that proved to be the winning score.
The 223 receiving yards is the top performance in the Pac-10 this season and the fourth-highest in Oregon State history. The 80-yard reception is the longest passing play in the Conference this year.

(EUGENE) - University of Oregon middle blocker Sonja Newcombe has been named the Pac-10 Volleyball Player of the Week for Oct. 9th-15th, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced Monday.
Newcombe, a freshman from Lake Arrowhead, Calif., led Oregon to a pair of victories over Arizona State and Arizona over the weekend, marking the Ducks’ first two-match series sweep over Pac-10 opponents for the first time in 17 years.
On Friday, Newcombe collected a match-high 17 kills and 14 digs against the Wildcats. In addition, she hit .444 with just one error in a three-set win over Arizona.
