No. 7 Linfield Bests Puget Sound, 3-1

Linfield's volleyball team returns home Saturday to take on Pacific.

(TACOMA, Wash.) - Linfield's Kelsey FrenchSeventh-ranked Linfield used a big block and multiple hitters to push its way to a four-game victory over Northwest Conference preseason favorite Puget Sound Friday night at Memorial Fieldhouse. The scores were 30-32, 30-27, 30-25 and 30-21.

Three hitters collected double-digit kills to pace a balanced Linfield attack. Outside hitter Kelsey French and middle blocker Lauren Kreiger accounted for 13 and 12 kills, respectively.

Women's Volleyball- Pacific Downs Bearcats

Willamette will travel to Tacoma, Wash. to take on PLU on Saturday.

(SALEM) - PAcific vs WIllamette volleyballPacific University achieved a .315 team hitting percentage on its way to sweeping Willamette University, 30-19, 30-17, 30-26, in a Northwest Conference volleyball match, Friday at Cone Field House.

The Boxers were led by Melissa Dunn, who recorded 12 kills and a .435 hitting percentage. Pacific upped its record to 4-9 overall, 1-2 in the NWC, while Willamette fell to 3-9, 0-3 in the NWC.

Puget Sound Remains Undefeated with 5-0 Victory over Bearcats

The Bearcats will be idle until Tuesday, when they will host George Fox University at 7:00 PM.

(SALEM) - Willamette vs Puget Sound gameThe University of Puget Sound claimed a 13-5 edge in total shots and earned six corner kicks to just one for Willamette, as the Loggers defeated the Bearcats, 5-0, in a Northwest Conference men’s soccer game played at Sparks Field on Friday.

Puget Sound, ranked #22 in the NCAA Division III Poll conducted by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA), kept its record unblemished at 5-0 overall and 2-0 in the NWC.

Kamloops Doubles Up Portland in Season Opener, 6-3

(PORTALND) - Winterhawks logoThe Kamloops Blazers, behind a three goal performance from Brock Nixon, spoiled the road opener for the Portland Winter Hawks, defeating the Hawks 6-3 at the Interior Savings Centre in Kamloops, BC.

Ray Macias chipped in two goals and rookie forward Jussi Puustinen from Finland recorded three assists for the Blazers. Reid Jorgensen had the other goal for the Blazers.

Portland got goals from defensemen Michael Sauer and Cameron Cepek as well as 19-year old forward Frazer McLaren.

North Salem Ends 16 Year Losing Streak To Rival South Salem

Sprague and McKay also opened Central Valley Conference action with wins Friday night.

(SALEM) - North Salem Vikings logoNORTH SALEM FANS REJOICE!!! The Vikings (3-1 overall, 1-0 CVC) battled, clawed, and won the 53rd annual “Mayor’s Cup” against South Salem 21-18 at Bennett Field Friday night.

The Saxons (1-3 overall, 0-1) lost to the Vikings for the first time since 1989.

The Vikings defense was solid once again, and next week will once against face a tough task at home against West Salem.

North Salem Beats South in the annual “Mayors Cup."

(SALEM) - North Salem logoThe North Salem Vikings the honrs in the annual showdown between the cross-town rivals.

North Salem's win ended with a score of 21-18.

Velazquez’ 89th-Minute Goal Helps OSU Pull Out 1-1 Tie at Long Island

(BROOKLYN, N.Y.) - OSU soccerA last-gasp goal by freshman forward Jessica Velazquez in the 89th minute helped the Oregon State women’s soccer team to a 1-1 tie at Long Island on Friday night.

Long Island (3-5-1) is undefeated in its last 21 home games, with 19 wins and two ties. The Blackbirds’ last home loss was in 2003.

Long Island had taken the lead on a 75th-minute goal by Caley Troutman, but the Beavers responded with less than two minutes to play in regulation.

Simon Fraser Downs Wolves, 2-0

Western Oregon will return to GNAC play on Sunday, traveling to Seattle University to take on the Redhawks.

(MONMOUTH) - wou logoSimon Fraser scored two goals in the second half, pinning a 2-0 non-conference women’s soccer loss on Western Oregon on Friday afternoon at the WOU Soccer Field.

Richelle Foulkes assisted on both goals for the Clan, who improved to 6-3 on the season with the win. WOU dropped to 4-4-2. Simon Fraser is ranked No. 12 in the latest NAIA poll, and is listed third in NAIA Region I.
