Wolves Finish SoCal Tour With Win

The team will leave Tuesday for Texas, taking on St. Edwards on Wednesday and then will play four matches in San Antonio at tournament hosted by Incarnate Word.

(LA JOLLA, Calif.) - WOU VolleyballThe Western Oregon volleyball team ended a three-day run at the UC San Diego Invitational with a win over Cal State Dominguez Hills on Saturday afternoon at the RIMAC Arena, 3-2.

The Wolves will back to Oregon with a 1-4 record, but they are also battle-tough after playing four teams ranked in the NCAA Division II Top 20.

Saturday against the Toros, coach Joe Houck’s squad battled to a 30-17, 28-30, 30-27, 25-30, 15-9 victory to get on the winning track for the first time in 2006. Katrina Johnson led four players in double-figure kill totals with 15, followed by Shakira Jenkins with 13, Lisa Martini with 11 and Brianne Sykes with 10. Johnson had a .433 attack percentage.

Warriors Spilt Pair of Games

The Warriors will be next in action on Saturday, when they go head-to-head with tournament-host Lewis-Clark State at 1:00 PM and Carroll College at 5:00 PM.

(LEWISTON, Idaho) - Chelsea ReeherKicking off the 2006 season in Idaho is nothing new for Corban's women's volleyball team, but half the team had not experienced the adventure of four matches in two days and it possibly showed on day one.

The Warriors opened the 2006 Holiday Inn Region I Challenge on Friday showing no ill effects of a long bus ride thanks to a 3-0 (30-19, 32-30, 30-15) sweep of Frontier Conference member Montana State-Northern.

Sophomore Jamie McGraw suited up for the first time as a member of Corban's volleyball program and guided the offense with 17 assists, while anchoring the defense with 12 digs.

Ducks Start Volleyball Season Off Right, Down UC Irvine 3-0

(EUGENE) - Ducks vollebyallThe University of Oregon Volleyball team opened its 2006 season in fine fashion, defeating UC Irvine 3-0 Friday night in the first match of the Oregon Kickoff Classic at McArthur Court.

The Ducks (1-0) used their entire roster to handle the Anteaters (0-1), 30-20, 30-16 and 30-16, and increased their non-conference record under second-year head coach Jim Moore to 12-1.

Sophomore Mira Djuric had match-highs of 18.0 points, 15 kills and a .565 hitting percentage to pace the UO attack. Freshman middle blocker Neticia Enesi also had a big night, racking up 14.5 points on nine kills, four service aces and two total blocks.

Beavers, Spartans Post Season-Opening Wins at OSU Diadora Classic

The two-day event concludes Saturday with UC Riverside (0-1) meeting Michigan State (1-0) at 5:00 PM, followed by Oregon State (1-0) against Sacramento State (0-1) at 7:00 PM.

(CORVALLIS) - OSU logo roundAlex Christensen, who missed the last 12 games of 2005 with a knee injury, made a big return for the Oregon State men’s soccer team, as the junior defender scored the game-winner in a season-opening 2-1 win against UC Riverside.

Friday night’s game was part of the 2006 OSU Diadora Classic, held at Lorenz Field. In the opening contest, Michigan State defeated Sacramento State in overtime, 1-0.

“I think it was a typical opening first game for both sides,” OSU Coach Dana Taylor said.

Wolves Drop Two Games

Western Oregon is now 0-4 on the season, with all four losses coming to teams ranked in the NCAA Division II top 20.

(LA JOLLA, Calif.)) - WOU Women's volleyball in actionTwo teams that are predicted to go 1-2 in the tough California Collegiate Athletic Association went 1-2 on Western Oregon on Friday at the UC San Diego volleyball invitational.

The Wolves lost to No. 6 nationally ranked Cal State LA in three games (30-18, 30-19, 30-27) in the morning, and then fell to No. 12 Cal State San Bernardino in the afternoon, 26-30, 30-21, 30-21, 30-27.

WOU will wrap up tournament play on Saturday afternoon at 1:00 PM against Cal State Dominguez Hills.

The Code of ConDUCKt requests fans to refrain from disruptive behavior, including foul language and obscene gestures; to sit only in their ticketed seats; to comply with requests from event staff; and use of tobacco products ia only allowed in designated areas.

(EUGENE) - Code of conDUCKtThe University of Oregon is initiating an educational campaign designed to encourage spectators to exhibit exemplary behavior at all of the Ducks’ home football games this fall.

The “Code of ConDUCKt” is a result of a four-month study within the university’s department of athletics that strives to promote good sportsmanship among fans in and around Autzen Stadium, and is jointly supported by university President Dave Frohnmayer and Athletics Director Bill Moos.

2006 Oregon Ducks Football Preview: Ducks Receivers Have Speed, Depth

Newcomer Derrick Jones and senior Jordan Kent (3-114-1) both provide the speed that Oregon has lacked the past few years.

(EUGENE) - Senior James Finley stands as the Ducks top returning receiver after catching 57 passes for 571 yards and two TDs, while Cameron Colvin (22-332-3) , Jaison Williams (15-245-3), Garren Strong (13- 105-0), Kyle Weatherspoon (12-131-1) and Brian Paysinger (6-70-0) all return significant experience to an an offense that often employs three or more wide receivers at one time.

Senior tight end Dante Rosario is set to make a greater contribution in 2006, with the converted fullback grabbing 15 catches for 168 yards and two touchdowns last season. He accumulated 10 scoring receptions the past three years.

“Dante is a playmaker and we need to find ways to utilize him,” Bellotti said.

Pair of Goals Not Enough For Corban in Season-Opening Loss to Trinity Western

Corban drops to 0-1 overall, while Trinity Western improves to 1-3 on the season.

(LANGLEY, B.C.) - Corban College Mens SoccerSenior forward Scott Marshall and junior midfielder Joshua Crain each scored a goal, but it was not enough as Corban's men's soccer team fell, 4-2, to the Spartans of Trinity Western in its season-opener on Friday afternoon.

After falling behind 2-0 thanks to Trinity Western goals in the 9th and 20th minute, Crain pulled the Warriors back within via the team first goal of the season in the 55th minute. The 6-foot junior, who tallied his first goal in almost a year, took a through ball, unloaded a shot from the right side of the net, and found the lower left corner for the score.

OSU Falls to #25 Gonzaga, 2-1, in Season Opener

The Beavers won the first 11 meetings in the series, the Bulldogs have now been victorious in two straight.

(PULLMAN, Wash.) - womens soccerJunior forward Whitney Goodell’s goal in the 17th minute got the 2006 season off to a good start for the Oregon State women’s soccer team, but Gonzaga rallied for a 2-1 victory at the Washington State Cougar Classic on Friday afternoon.

Gonzaga, a 2005 NCAA Tournament team, is ranked #25 nationally by Soccer Buzz.

Goodell (Concord, CA./College Park HS) put the Beavers ahead 1-0 on a shot from about 15 yards away on the left side.
