Results From the 4th Annual Tulip Festival at Woodburn Dragstrip

(WOODBURN) - The Woodburn Dragstrip celebrated the 4th annual Tulip Festival Drag Race on April 22nd and April 23rd. 261 racers joined in for the racing and festivities. The Tulip Festival drags featured Super Pro, Pro, Sportsman, Motorcycle, Pro Nostalgia and A/Fuel Dragster cars.

In the Super Pro division Bob Schmidt of Silverton Oregon took the top spot in a 1940 Willys PU with an elapsed time of 9.88 at 124.68 miles per hour. Katie Nelson of Hayden Idaho was the runner up in a 96 dragster with an elapsed time of 8.40 at 155.33 miles per hour.

Willamette Speedway Season Opener!!!

(LEBANON) - Bend Oregon's Rob Mayea won Saturday nights' season opening Outlaw Late Model feature race after taking the lead from Darren Coffell on lap 19 of the 40 lap event. Fast timer Jeremy Shank was the first car out after making contact with the outer wall on lap 7.

A spin on lap 18 by Cody Sell brought out a one-lap yellow. After that, it was out and out racing right down to the checkered. Mike Miller, Trevor Glaser, Darren Coffell and Casey Vitale round out the top five for the Outlaw Late Model feature race.

Johnson Leads GNAC Heptathlon WOU All-American has 3,076 Points Through Four Events

(ELLENSBURG, Wash.—) - Western Oregon`s Bridget Johnson set a personal best in the 100 hurdles, helping to propel her to a first-day lead in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference heptathlon championships, hosted by Central Washington University.

Johnson, who placed sixth at the 2005 NCAA Division II national championships, had a four-event total of 3,076 points, a 150-point lead over Seattle Pacific`s Kelsey Cooley, who has 2,924 points. Cooley`s teammate Linda Blake is just back of her in third at 2,974. The final three events will be held on Tuesday.

Bearcats Win Fifth Straight NWC Men's Track and Field Title

(SALEM) - Nick Symmonds won the 400, 800 and 1500 meter runs and the Willamette University men`s track and feld team came from third place after Friday`s events to win its fifth straight Northwest Conference track and field championship Saturday at McCulloch Stadium.

Trailing both George Fox and UPS after Friday`s events, the Bearcats rode Symmonds` victories, a win in the 110 hurdles by Brennan Garrelts and strong performances from some unexpected places to win the meet with 182 points.

Puget Sound finished second with 151 points, followed by George Fox (134.5), Linfield (134), Whitworth (93), PLU (61) Lewis 7 Clark (35.5) and Pacific (24).

Harvick Completes Weekend Sweep in Desert

(AVONDALE, Ariz.)) - If Kevin Harvick had any doubts about the direction his race team was headed, they were eased with a dominating performance in the desert that ended a 38-race winless drought.

Harvick completed a sweep at Phoenix International Raceway on Saturday night, winning the Nextel Cup race to go along with his Busch Series victory a day before.

If it was enough to keep with Richard Childress Racing remains to be seen.

"We've run really good this year and the performance is up," said Harvick, who swept weekend events for the second time in his career. "Everything is running good right now."

James Excels in 1ST Playoff Start For Cavs

(CLEVELAND – AP) - LeBron James had an NBA playoff debut that was simply Magical. Showcasing his spectacular skills as a pro in the postseason for the first time, James recorded a triple-double and brought the Cleveland Cavaliers back to the playoffs in style with a 97-86 win over the Washington Wizards on Saturday.

James finished with 32 points, 11 rebounds and 11 assists, becoming the first player since Magic Johnson to post a triple-double in his first playoff game.

''It's a great class to be in,'' James said.

Men's Baseball: Wolves Take 2 more From NNU, 12-4 & 19-3

WOU rips 36 hits on the day, improves to 31-13 on the season.

(MONMOUTH) - No. 1 regionally ranked Western Oregon swung hot bats on a warm afternoon, rolling to 12-4 and 19-3 baseball wins over Northwest Nazarene on Saturday afternoon at the WOU Field.

The Wolves, who are now 20-2 in their last 22 games, improved to 31-13 on the season and to 13-3 in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference. NNU dropped to 16-22 overall and 6-8 in the GNAC.

Western Oregon pounded out 22 hits in six innings of work in the second game, including four (4-5) for Josh McGowan and three each for Boo Christenson, Joe McCormick and Paul Fisher...

Jockey Velazquez to Miss Kentucky Derby

(LEXINGTON, Ky. – AP) - John Velazquez will miss the Kentucky Derby with a broken shoulder blade and cracked ribs and could be out for as long as five months.

Velazquez, who suffered the injuries during a spill at Keeneland, was set to ride Bluegrass Cat in the Derby in two weeks. Owners of the 3-year-old colt were looking for another rider.

''Our prayers have been answered that he wasn't injured any worse,'' Bill Casner, chairman of WinStar Farm, which owns Bluegrass Cat, said Friday. ''It was pretty amazing that he came out of it with no more injuries than he has.''
