(OMAHA, Neb.) - Oregon State began looking ahead to the College World Series finals on Thursday, a day after beating California-Irvine 7-1 to enter the championship pairing for the second straight season.
Thursday, the Beavers held a late-morning practice at Creighton University.
Before and after the workout, a throng of reporters interviewed players and coaches, and a common theme was: After losing five full-time position starters, two starting pitchers and the closer from a national championship team, how on earth has Oregon State found itself back in Omaha, let alone playing for a second straight national championship?

(BOULDER, Colorado ) - University of Colorado at Boulder officials Thursday announced the campus would comply with NCAA sanctions resulting from a self-reported violation of NCAA bylaws that occurred on the campus between 2001-05, and announced a set of key reforms and practices to prevent similar violations in the future.
The violations involved 133 walk-on student-athletes in six athletic programs (two men’s and four women’s) who were inadvertently undercharged for training table meals in two ways.

Boise starter Alberto Cabrera allowed four runs on six hits in 3 and 2/3 innings.
Salem-Keizer converted both walks the starter allowed into runs.

(OMAHA, Neb. ) - Daniel Turpen allowed five hits over eight innings and defending champion Oregon State beat UC Irvine 7-1 in the College World Series on Wednesday night, ending the Anteaters' dramatic postseason run.
The win sends the Beavers (47-18) into the best-of-three championship series starting Saturday. They will play the winner of Thursday's Rice-North Carolina game for the title.

The Tualatin, Ore., native won 3 and 2 over Amy Mombert, and on Thursday next faces Marcie Hoover who defeated Molly Edmunds, 5 and 3.

The Trail Blazers also announced that Executive Vice President, Mike Golub has been promoted to Chief Operating Officer reporting to Larry Miller.
As President of the Trail Blazers, Miller will be responsible for all aspects of the Trail Blazers business portfolio, including all team business activities, the Rose Quarter and Rose City Radio and will report to Vulcan Sports CEO Tod Leiweke.

(MONMOUTH, Ore.) - Western Oregon University coaches and administrators have selected baseball standout Kevin Corrigan and all-star basketball player Leada Berkey as the 2006-07 WOU male and female Marquis Spas Athletes of the Year.
Kevin Corrigan led the baseball Wolves at the plate and on the pitching mound this year.
Leada Berkey had one of the finest women’s basketball seasons in WOU school history this year, averaging over 21 points a game and nine rebounds a contest. Read Full Article

(PORTLAND, Ore. ) - Portland State Athletics announced the signing of Courtney Cremer, a 6-foot-3, post player from Stayton, Ore., to a national letter of intent to play basketball for the Vikings. Cremer will be eligible for the 2007-08 season.
Cremer is a two-time first team all-state performer.
She earned first team Class 4A honors this past winter, and helped Stayton to the state championship. Read Full Article
