2007 Oregon State Spring Football Preview

The strength of the Oregon State defense is its front seven, where a host of veterans are back to lead one of the most experienced units in the Pac-10.

(CORVALLIS) - Salem-News.com SportsWhen last we saw the Oregon State football team there were tears of joy, hugs, and other arrays of emotions after the Beavers thrilling come from behind victory over Missouri at the 2006 Sun Bowl.

Without a doubt the biggest question mark for 2007 is at quarterback, where the team will have a new starter for the first time since the opener of the ’05 season.

Riley and company will be looking to replace Sun Bowl MVP Matt Moore after he led the team to eight victories in the last nine games, including wins over nationally ranked USC and Hawaii.

Sophomores Sean Canfield and Lyle Moevao figure to be competing this spring.

NCAA Softball: No. 13 Oregon Opens Pac-10 with Cal and Stanford

Only two teams, third-ranked Oklahoma (36-2) and ninth-ranked Arizona State (34-7) have as many victories as the Ducks (34-3) this season.

(EUGENE) - oregon softball photoOregon’s 34-3 record, No. 13 ranking and best start in program history have gained the team notoriety in recent weeks, all building up to this weekend’s Pac-10 opener.

Easily the top softball conference in the nation, Oregon will get to test its self against some very tough competition with Cal and Stanford visiting Eugene.

The Ducks have the advantage of playing their first three conference series at the friendly confines of Howe Field, with Cal up first on the schedule.

CCC Women's Basketball: Corban Signs Quartet of Players for 2007-08 Season

(SALEM) - warrior logoNinth-year Corban head women's basketball coach Terry Williams signed his first set of recruits in six years when he inked four players to letters of intent for the upcoming 2007-08 season, including three local high school seniors and one junior college transfer.

Williams, who is making a return to the bench following five seasons away from the helm of the Warriors, signed local high school seniors Natasha Crisman (Sublimity, Ore.), Andrea Greeley (Salem, Ore.), and Katie Stewart (Eugene, Ore.), as well as junior college transfer Margie Lou Correll (Moses Lake, Wash.), to letters of intent making this the first class of recruits that the all-time winningest coach in Warrior women's basketball history has signed as head coach at Corban.

Corban Earns 12-5 Win Over NCAA DIII Member Pacific

Freshman Eric Fry earned his first collegiate victory for Corban.

(HILLSBORO, Ore. ) - corban player photoJunior Darren Johnson went 3-for-5 at the plate and drove in a season and career-high five RBIs, as Corban's baseball team avenged an earlier season loss and earned a 12-5 win over NCAA Division III member Pacific (Ore.) on Tuesday at Hillsboro Stadium.

Corban used a five-run second inning to build the momentum they needed to secure the much-needed victory and split the team's season series with the Boxers.

NCAA Women's Golf: Beavers Finish in Third at Duck Invite

Host Oregon finished in fifth.

(JUNCTION CITY, Ore. ) - osu golf photoThe Oregon State women’s golf team registered the final round’s lowest team score of 301 that led the Beavers to a third place finish at Shadow Hills Country Club.

Oregon State shot a 933 (313-319-301) for the tournament and moved up one spot from yesterday’s fourth place finish on the par-72 6,096 yard course.

Martha Burkard led OSU in the final round with a 2-over-par 74.

Jessi Gebhardt and Julianna Uhrik tied for OSU’s second best score on the day with a third round score of 75.

Oregon's Rice Named Pac-10 Softball Pitcher of the Week

Opponents are hitting just .164 against Rice.

(WALNUT CREEK, Calif.) - rice photoOregon sophomore Melissa Rice has been named the Pac-10 Softball Pitcher of the Week for Mar. 20th-26th, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced Tuesday.

Rice made three starts over the weekend, going 3-0 to help the Ducks roll through a pair of double-headers against Idaho State and Utah Valley State.

On Saturday, Rice fired a one-hitter against the Bengals of Idaho State in the day’s second game. She walked none and struck out seven in a five-inning shutout.

Lanz leads the team with 17 individual titles in 2007.

(WALNUT CREEK, Calif. ) - jami lanz photoOregon State’s Jami Lanz has been named the Pac-10 Conference Gymnast of the Week for March 13th-19th, Pac-10 Commissioner Tom Hansen announced Tuesday.

Lanz, a sophomore from Eugene, Ore., led the Beavers to a season-high score of 197.100 in Friday’s win over Cal State Fullerton at Gill Coliseum.

CCC Softball: No. 4 Simon Fraser Takes Two From Corban

(SURREY, B.C. ) - corban player photoJunior Lindsay Batey reached base safely twice for Corban's softball team, including a single in the first inning of the second game of Tuesday's double header against the NAIA's No. 4-ranked Clan Simon Fraser, despite back-to-back losses, 8-0 & 8-0, that featured a perfect game in the opener by the host's Jen Schreyer.

After the non-conference match-up, the Warriors' record falls to 3-17-1 overall and remains 1-3 in the Cascade Collegiate Conference.

Meanwhile, the No. 4 Clan improve their undefeated record to 9-0.

NCAA Men's Golf: Oregon State Finishes Second at Duck Invitational

OSU shot a 295 during Tuesday’s final round to finish with a 10-over 874 (287-292-295).

(EUGENE) - osu golf photoThe Oregon State men’s golf team settled for second place at the Duck Invitational on Tuesday, but considering the competition, the result may go down as one of the best in school history.

All of the Pac-10 Conference teams were competing as part of a 12-team field at the Eugene Country Club (par-72, 7,033 yards).

OSU finished six shots back of fifth-ranked USC, but the Beavers placed better than seven teams ranked ahead of them in the Golfstat statistics, including #1 Stanford and #10 UCLA.

The Beavers will hope to duplicate their outstanding effort in late April, as the Eugene Country Club will be the site of the Pac-10 Championships.
