Still Time to Sign-up For West Salem High Kids Cheer Camp

Camp registration which includes cheer instruction, a snack and a camp t-shirt is $35 per person.

(SALEM) - Salem-News.com logoThe fifth annual West Salem High School Cheerleading Cheer Camp, a fundraiser for the Titan cheerleading squad, is scheduled for Sat., Jan. 27th, beginning at 11:00 AM in the gym at West Salem High School.

The varsity, junior varsity and freshman Titan cheerleaders will be the camp instructors.

The camp is open to those in kindergarten through 8th grade.

Bobby Hamilton Jr. Returns to NASCAR Busch Series

Jamie McMurray posted two of the top three speeds in Sunday's morning qualifying testing session.

(DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -) - Bobby Hamilton Jr. believes he is right where he belongs.

Two weeks after his father and 2004 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series champion Bobby Hamilton Sr. passed away from head and neck cancer, Hamilton Jr. was behind the wheel of the No. 35 Team Rensi Motorsports Ford during Busch Series testing at Daytona International Speedway.

Aric Almirola cut a right rear tire on his No. 18B Chevrolet and took a wild ride down the Superstretch where he ended up on his roof.

Corban's Six Game Winning Streak Ends Against Eastern Oregon

The host Mountaineers took control with 5:09 remaining when Henderson connected on a jumper in the paint to give the host team a slim one-point lead (57-56).

(LA GRANDE) - Brianne CarrasDespite a combined 46 points by seniors Jessi Norton, Tosha Wilson, and Brianne Carras, Corban's women's basketball team saw its six-game winning streak come to an end via a 73-66 loss to the Mountaineers of Eastern Oregon on Saturday.

After registering its highest point total since 2001-02 and shooting nearly sixty-five percentage from the field last night against Albertson, Corban suffered from the field making only 29 field goals compared to a season-high 40 twenty-four hours earlier.

Norton led the Warriors with a team-best 16 points.

Seawolves Put Clamps on Wolves, 70-49

Alaska Anchorage defense, Draper and Arts on offense lead UAA win.

(MONMOUTH) - WOU Wolves logoEric Draper and Carl Arts combined for 39 points leading the Alaska Anchorage men's basketball team to a 70-49 victory over Western Oregon on Saturday night at the Physical Education Building.

Draper had 21 and Arts 18 and the duo only missed six shots on the night between them.

Meanwhile, UAA's defense held the Wolves to 28 points under its average as the No. 23 nationally ranked Seawolves improved to 12-4 on the year and to 3-2 in Great Northwest Athletic Conference.

No. 9 Oregon Claws Past California, 92-84

The Ducks move to 18-1 on the season, the best start in 80 years.

(EUGENE) - No. 9 Oregon overcame an eight point halftime deficit to beat California 92-84 Saturday night at Mac Court.

Aaron Brooks scored 15 of his 22 points to help the Ducks (18-1 overall, 6-1 Pac-10) win their fifth straight league game for the first time since 2002.

Malik Hairston added 19 points for the Ducks, while Tajuan Porter scored 15.

Theo Robertson led the Bears (12-7 overall, 4-3 Pac-10) with 19 points, while Omar Wilkes and Ubaka had 17 points each.

The Ducks now head to Seattle for a Thursday night showdown with the Washington Huskies.

Whitman led 29-17 at halftime.

WOU Women Stun Western Washington, 84-77

Leada Berkey posts 34 points as the Wolves win first GNAC game since 2005.

(MONMOUTH) - WOU WolvesLeada Berkey tallied 34 points and Kori Seymour had 16 in the second half helping Western Oregon to 84-77 women's basketball upset over Western Washington on Saturday night at the Physical Education Building.

Berkey's scoring outburst marked the fifth time this season that the junior forward has scored 30 or more points in a game, tying a Great Northwest Athletic Conference record.

Berkey also had nine rebounds and four assists.

No. 21 California Downs Oregon, 65-56

Civil War week is up next for the Ducks.

(BERKELEY, Calif.) - Lauren Greif scored a career-high 19 points and was one of four Cal players in double figures as the No. 21 Golden Bears were able to fend off a scrappy Oregon side 65-56 on Saturday afternoon at Haas Pavilion.

Cal improved to 15-4 overall and 6-3 in Pac-10 play while the Ducks fell to 10-8 and 2-6 in the conference.

Carolyn Ganes and Tamika Nurse shared the team-high with 14 points apiece for Oregon. Ganes, a senior post, led all players with nine rebounds.
