Oregon State, Arizona State Both Seeking First Pac-10 Wins

KEX 1190 in Portland and KEJO 1240 in Corvallis/Albany).

(TEMPE, Ariz.) - The Oregon State men’s basketball team (8-9, 0-4) is on the road seeking its first Pacific-10 Conference win of the season.

OSU leads the all-time series, 36-31, with Arizona State.

But, the Beavers have lost eight straight in Tempe, last winning there in 1997-98.

No. 15 Oregon Outlasts Arizona State Comeback, 60-55

Guard Malik Hairston, back after missing five games with a foot injury, scored 13 for the Ducks.

(TEMPE, Ariz.) - Oregon senior guard Aaron Brooks hit a pair of game-clinching free throws with 3.6 seconds to play, as the 15th-ranked Oregon Ducks escaped with a 60-55 victory over Arizona State on Thursday night.

The Ducks (15-1 overall, 3-1 Pac-10) led by as many as 15 points in the second half before the Sun Devils (6-10 overall, 0-5 Pac-10) rallied to cut it to three.

Bryce Taylor also scored 16 for Oregon.

Ducks Bury Arizona, 86-73

The Ducks remain home to face No. 11 Arizona State on Saturday at 7:00 PM.

(EUGENE) - The Oregon Ducks caught fire early and used a devastating bench to upend Arizona in a 86-73 Pac-10 Conference victory on Thursday night at McArthur Court.

The Ducks (10-5, 2-3 Pac-10) made 11-of-21 three-point attempts in ending a two-game slide and improved to 2-1 at home in Pac-10 contests this season.

The Wildcats (7-11, 1-5) suffered their sixth setback in seven games.

Wildcats Hold Off Western Oregon Women, 76-65

WOU second half comeback falls short against CWU

(MONMOUTH) - Western Oregon got 30 points from Leada Berkey and a solid second half comeback, but it wasn’t enough as Central Washington held on to claim a 76-65 women’s Great Northwest Athletic Conference win on Thursday night at the Physical Education Building.

The Wildcats improved to 10-3 on the season and 1-2 in league play, while Western Oregon dropped to 1-13 on the year and 0-3 in GNAC play.

CWU held a commanding 35-21 lead at halftime, but WOU roared back after the break.

Strong Second Half Leads Falcons to Win Over Wolves

Seattle Pacific uses 11-0 and 7-0 runs to pull away from Western Oregon, 86-74.

(SEATTLE) - Seattle Pacific went on runs of 11-0 and 7-0 in the second half to break open a close game and defeat Western Oregon 86-74 in a men’s Great Northwest Athletic Conference basketball game on Thursday night at the Royal Brougham Pavilion.

6-10 center Rob Will had 18 points and 15 rebounds to lead the Falcons, who improved to 9-5 on the season and 2-1 in GNAC play.

Jacob Mitchell and Ryan Schmidt had 19 each to lead WOU, who fell to 5-9 on the year and 0-3 in conference play.

Big 12 and Pac-10 Conferences Announce Mens Basketball Series

Oregon will play at Kansas State, while the Beavers will face Iowa State at home.

(WALNUT CREEK, Calif.) - The Big 12 and Pacific-10 Conferences have announced an agreement to play a four-year mens basketball series of 12 annual games between the two leagues, starting with the 2007-08 season.

This series of games with the Pac-10 will showcase some of the best college basketball in the country, Big 12 Commissioner Kevin Weiberg said.

We are pleased to make this scheduling arrangement with the Big 12 Conference and its members, Pac-10 Commissioner Tom Hansen noted.

Garbin Calls it a Career at Oregon

Garbin appeared in three games for the Ducks, totaling nine minutes of action.

(EUGENE) - University of Oregon student-athlete Nicole Garbin is stepping away from the women’s basketball team in order to concentrate on her studies, head coach Bev Smith announced Tuesday.

Garbin, a senior guard who joined the basketball squad in November following a standout soccer career, filled a key role by providing UO’s relatively small roster with depth during practices.

Given her course load and academic schedule, it would have been very difficult for Garbin to make all practices and road trips this term

No. 12 Oregon State Set For Season Opener at No. 3 Florida

OSU has not made the trip to Florida since 1986 when the Beavers finished third in a three-way with Florida and UCLA.

(CORVALLIS) - The top-ranked Gators won in Corvallis in the 2006 four-way, home opener. Tasha Smith won the all-around and the Beavers led through two rotations before Florida pulled out the victory.

Oregon State is 8-14 all-time against Florida.

OSU has not beaten UF in their last five tries, including postseason meetings, going back to 2001.

Corban Men Home For Lone Weekend of Month

Corban is 1-17 overall, and 0-7 in CCC play.

(SALEM) - Corban’s men’s basketball team comes back to the Capitol City for the only time this month when they host the Thunderbirds of Cascade on Friday and the nationally-ranked Knights of Warner Pacific on Saturday.

Both games will tip-off at approximately 7:30 PM inside the C.E. Jeffers Sports Center.

Corban and Cascade have met 21 times in the series history with the Warriors winning 19-out-of-21 contests.
