ODFW Announces Fishing And Boating Education Grants

The Aquatic and Angler Education Program introduces aquatic ecology and sport angling to the public.

(SALEM) - The Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife’s Angler and Aquatic Education Program is encouraging Oregon schools to apply to the Future Fisherman Foundation for Physical Education Grants for the 2007/2008 school year.

The deadline is March 2nd.

These grants provide opportunities for schools to create or enhance a fishing and/or boating program within their physical education programs. Students not only develop skills but also develop a better awareness and concern for the resource.

Oregon State Men Travel to The Desert This Week

OSU games can be heard live on KEX 1190 AM in Portland/Salem and KEJO 1240 AM in Corvallis/Albany.

(CORVALLIS) - For the first time since the end of November, the Oregon State men’s basketball team (8-8, 0-3) hits the road.

The Beavers are in Arizona this week seeking their first Pacific-10 Conference victory. They play #10 Arizona on Thursday and Arizona State on Saturday.

The Beavers trail in the all-time series with Arizona, 17-44.

Oregon State Takes National Ranking Into Home Dual

Before the meet, OSU’s coaching staff will hold a free clinic for youth wrestlers from noon to 1:00 PM in Gill Coliseum.

(CORVALLIS) - After a successful swing through the Midwest, Oregon State has broken into the national wrestling rankings for the first time in over five years.

The Beavers (8-1 overall, 2-0 Pacific-10) are ranked 19th in this week’s National Wrestling Coaches Association poll.

OSU will take that ranking into its first home meet in over a month when the Beavers face Cal State-Fullerton (3-3, 1-2) in a Pacific-10 dual meet on Sunday at 2:00 PM in Gill Coliseum.

Arizona, No. 11 Arizona State Invade Mac Court

Starting with Saturday’s game against No. 11 Arizona State, Oregon has a stretch of three consecutive games against ranked opponents.

(EUGENE) - The Ducks (9-5, 1-3 Pac-10) return home to face the Arizona Schools in Pac-10 Conference play, starting Thursday against the Arizona Wildcats (7-10, 1-4) at 7:00 PM.

UO plays No. 11 Arizona State (14-2, 4-1) on Saturday at 7:00 PM.

Oregon leads the all-time series against UA 24-19, including a 13-7 mark at Mac Court.

Tickets Remain For Seven Oregon Home Games; Two TV Games Added

OSN, Fox Sports Net Northwest add Oregon games.

(EUGENE) - Tickets remain available for Oregon’s final seven men’s basketball home games.

Reserved seats remain available for the Stanford (Jan. 18th), Arizona State (Feb. 8th) and Washington State (Feb. 22nd) games at a price of $24.

Obstructed view reserved seats are still on sale for the California (Jan. 20th), Arizona (Feb. 10th), Washington (Feb. 24th) and Oregon State games (March 3rd).

Corban's Steigleman Named Cascade Collegiate Conference Player of The Week

Corban is currently 13-5 overall this season, including a 5-2 mark in conference play.

(SALEM) - Corban junior guard Jessica Steigleman was named Cascade Collegiate Conference women's basketball Player of the Week for the week as announced Tuesday by the conference office.

Steigleman, a 5-foot-10 guard/forward combo player, helped guide the Warriors to two straight victories against The Evergreen State College and Northwest.

Against Evergreen, Steigleman scored 12 points on 5-for-17 shooting from the field and grabbed a game-high 16 rebounds.

Corban's Bale Resigns, Williams Announced as Head Basketball Coach

Through this past weekend with a record of 13-5 this season, Bale has guided the Warriors to an overall record of 93-51 in four-plus seasons.

(SALEM) - Citing the need to give more time to his academic responsibilities and family, current head women’s basketball coach Dave Bale has announced his resignation effective at the end of the season.

Corban College’s Director of Athletics John Nelson announced Tuesday that former head coach Terry Williams has been named as the new head women’s basketball coach at Corban College.

Bale leaves the helm following five seasons on the bench in which he guided the Warriors to back-to-back 20-win seasons and two separate trips to the NAIA Division II national tournament.

Oregon's Brooks Wins Pac-10 Player of The Week

This is the first weekly honor for Brooks and Oregon's 26th Player of the Week all-time.

(WALNUT CREEK, Calif.) - Oregon guard Aaron Brooks has been named the U.S. Bank Pacific-10 Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week for January 1st-7th, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced Monday.

Brooks, a senior from Seattle, Wash., averaged 28.0 points, 4.0 assists, 3.0 steals and 2.5 rebounds in leading the Ducks to a split with the Los Angeles schools.

He opened the week with 31 points in a 84-82 loss to USC.

Oregon Hoops Takes Show to Tempe, Tucson

Oregon’s 14-1 record is its best since the 1937-38 team went 16-1 -- a span of 69 years.

(EUGENE) - Oregon hits the road for six of the next eight games.

That stretch begins Thursday at Arizona State (7:30 PM PST), and continues Sunday at No. 10 Arizona (5:00 PM PST).

The Pac-10’s top scorer (Aaron Brooks, 18.1 ppg) and rebounder (Maarty Leunen, 10.3 rpg) are currently both Oregon Ducks.

Ernie Kent is now just three victories away from claiming the second spot on the UO career coaching wins list.
