Warriors End Six Game Slide

Jessica McGraw led the way for the Warriors, registering her fourth triple-double of the season with 26 assists, 12 digs and ten kills.

(EUGENE) - Corban's Jessica McGrawIn the first ever meeting between future Cascade Conference rivals, Corban, defeated Northwest Christian College on Tuesday night, 30-14, 17-30, 30-27, 31-29.

The Beacons got off to a sluggish start in the first game, hitting just ..104. Corban used a balanced attack, committing just one hitting error as they cruised to the game-one victory. Becky Horn established her defensive presence for the Warriors as well, collecting nine digs.

As if they only needed a little time to get their engines moving, Northwest Christian got right back into the mix in the second game, blowing the doors off a 13-point win.

Willamette’s Dean And Hermes Earn NWC Player of the Week Honors

The Bearcats, 1-3 overall and 1-0 in the NWC, play at Linfield on Saturday.

(SALEM) - Willamette footballWillamette senior fullback Kevin Dean earned Northwest Conference Offensive Player of the Week honors, and junior linebacker Taylor Hermes was named NWC Defensive Player of the Week following the Bearcats' 41-35 comeback victory over Menlo College on Saturday.

Dean had the best game of his career, rushing for 168 yards on 11 carries and scoring the Bearcats first three touchdowns in leading Willamette to its first victory of the season. Dean scored on runs of 34 and 29 yards in the first half and from 21 yards in the third quarter.

Wolves Clip Warriors, 2-1

Corban scores early, but Western Oregon rallies for the win.

(MONMOUTH) - WOU vs Corban women's soccerWestern Oregon’s senior tandem of Amy Weberg and Lisa Munyon scored goals, helping to lead the Wolves to a 2-1 non-conference women’s soccer victory over Corban College on Tuesday afternoon at the WOU Soccer field.

The victory on a warm afternoon evened the Wolves record at 5-5-2 on the season, while the Warriors dropped to 3-8.

Corban scored first, just moments into the match on a shot by Marissa Walter, off a pass from Lyndsey Hawk. It took the Warriors just 2:35 to find the goal, and the visitors held a 1-0 lead for the next 16 minutes.

Willamette Women’s Soccer Team Moves up to #6 in NCAA Division III National Rankings

The Bearcats, 7-0-1, replace Puget Sound at the top of the West Region Rankings.

(SALEM) - Soccer ballThe Willamette University women’s soccer team has moved up to #6 in this week’s NCAA Division III National Rankings, released Tuesday by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA).

The Bearcats, who are 7-0-1 on the season and 4-0-0 in the Northwest Conference, were ranked #18 last week.

Willamette went 2-0 during the week, including a 3-0 win over the University of Puget Sound on Sunday at Sparks Field.

Bearcats Sweep NWC Women's Soccer Player of The Week Awards

Willamette, 7-0-1 overall and 4-0 in the NWC, hosts George Fox University on Wednesday at 7:00 PM at Sparks Field.

(SALEM) - Bearcats logoWillamette University's nationally ranked women’s soccer team swept the Northwest Conference Player of the Week awards following their two conference wins last weekend, including a 3-0 victory over then 3rd-ranked the University of Puget Sound.

Senior goalkeeper Kari Woody earned her second straight NWC Defensive Player of the Week award after posting shutouts against Lewis & Clark College on Saturday, Sept. 23rd, and versus the University of Puget Sound on Sunday, Sept. 24th.

Belgium Tennis Standout Joins Ducks

The men’s tennis team will release its schedule for the upcoming season on Tuesday.

(EUGENE) - Alexander CornelissenAlexander Cornelissen, a standout from Lauwe, Belgium has agreed to accept an athletic scholarship to play tennis at the University of Oregon, director of tennis Nils Schyllander announced Monday.

“We are very excited to have Alex aboard,” director Schyllander said. “He has been one of the top junior players in Belgium and he brings a great amount of experience to the program. We feel he can contribute immediately.”

Linfield, Wheeler Second at Wildcat Invitational

Linfield plays the third round of the five-round NWC South fall-tournament on Sunday, Oct. 1st, at Chehalem Glenn course.

(McMINNVILLE) - Linfield’s Brittany JohnstonLinfield took second place and Leslie Wheeler tied for second in at 81 in the individual standings at the new Wildcat Invitational women’s golf tournament Monday at Michelbook Country Club.

Concordia of Portland won with a score of 327 by its lowest four scorers. Linfield’s top four shot 361. Brittany Johnston was second lowest Wildcat shooter with 86.

Linfield beat all four Northwest Conference teams that were entered.

Western Oregon Women’s Soccer Weekly Digest

The Wolves are now 3-3 in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference play, and are 5-11 overall.

(MONMOUTH) - Soccer ballHome is sweet: Playing at home for only the second and third times of the season, the Western Oregon volleyball team claimed a pair of victories over the Alaska schools last week, both in four games.

Add in WOU’s victory at the Physical Education Building on Sept. 9th over Saint Martin’s, and the Wolves are now 3-0 in Monmouth this year.
