Salem-News.com Sports (September 02, 2006 18:39)Wolves Split Matches on Final Day of Alamo City Classic Salem-News.com Sports(SAN ANTONIO, Tex.) - Western Oregon defeated Chadron State in the morning match, but fell to Ferris State in three games to wrap up play at the Alamo City Classic in San Antonio, Texas.
The Wolves will return home with a 2-8 overall record, heading into Great Northwest Athletic Conference play. They will travel to Western Washington on Thursday, and host Saint Martin's on Saturday.
WOU ended play at the Alamo with a 1-3 record, falling to Ferris State 31-20, 30-26, 30-17. The Michigan school improved to 8-1 on the year with the victory.

(NEWBERG) - Freshman Dylan Durell came off the bench in the second half to score the only goal of the game, giving the George Fox University Bruins a 1-0 win over the Warner Pacific College Knights in the 2006 men’s soccer season opener for both teams Saturday afternoon here at Morse Field.
Despite a blistering afternoon heat wave, neither team could get its offense warmed up in the first half as the teams battled to a 0-0 standoff. George Fox got off five shots, only one on goal, while Warner Pacific was held to only three shots, and Bruin starting keeper Kyle Putnam went untested as none were on goal.
The Bruins cranked out nine shots, seven on goal, in the second half, and finally broke through at the 58:26 mark.

(LA GRANDE) - In the opening Cascade Collegiate Conference match of the season, Corban's women's volleyball team fell to the Mountaineers of Eastern Oregon, 3-2 (26-30, 30-23, 30-24, 21-30, 13-15), despite a team-high 14 kills from senior Hallie Hofferd and a valiant comeback in the fifth and final set on Friday night.
In the first game, Corban founds itself up by 7 points (14-7) following a kill by sophomore Jessica McGraw.
Thanks to a 10-3 run by the host Mountaineers, the game was tied at 17-all following an attack error by Hofferd.

(CHICO, Calif.) - It wasn’t a loss, and it wasn’t a win, but it felt like near-mission accomplished for the Western Oregon women’s soccer team on Friday night during a 0-0 tie with Chico State.
The Wolves battled the Wildcats tooth and nail for 110 minutes before settling for the deadlock, withstanding 31 Chico State shots, including 10 on goal. The hosts out-shot their visitors 31-8 and 10-3 (on goal), but when the long evening was over, both teams left the field in the same place.
The result left Chico State, ranked No. 25 in the NSCAA/adidas national NCAA Division II poll, at 0-1-2 on the season. Western Oregon moves to 0-1-1.

(CORVALLIS) - The Oregon State women’s soccer team dominated Northern Colorado but settled for a 1-0 victory at the OSU Nike Invitational on Friday evening. In the first game at Lorenz Field, Cal State Northridge scored on a late penalty kick to beat UAB, 1-0.
The Beavers controlled the first half, both in terms of possession and the shot totals (12-2), but it took until the 38th minute for them to find the back of the net. Freshman defender Red Nixon sent a ball in from her left back position, and freshman forward Jessica Velazquez brought it down inside the box, dribbled once to her left and rifled a shot past the goalkeeper for her first collegiate goal.
