Salem-News.com Sports (August 16, 2006 00:05)OSU Men's Golfer Mitch Gillis Wins Second Big Title of the Summer Salem-News.com(CRESSWELL) - Oregon State senior Mitch Gillis captured his second major title of the summer over the weekend, as he won the Men’s Stroke Play Championship at Emerald Valley Golf Club.
Gillis (Williams Lake, B.C.), who won the Oregon Amateur in June at the Portland Golf Club, shot a 4-over 217 and won the event by two strokes. After shooting a 75 and a 70, he was tied for the lead heading into Sunday’s final round. His 1-over 72 was good enough for the win after he notched birdies on three of the final five holes.

Salem-News.com Sports (August 15, 2006 23:19)OSU Soccer Teams Open This Week With Exhibitions, First Games Under New Lights Salem-News.com SPORTS(CORVALLIS) - The Oregon State men’s and women’s soccer teams will make their 2006 debuts this week, and they’ll be playing under the newly installed lights at Lorenz Field at Valley Stadium.
The OSU men face Simon Fraser on Tuesday (Aug. 15th) and Trinity Western on Friday (Aug. 18th). Both matches are at 8 PM.
The OSU women host Trinity Western on Saturday (Aug. 19th) at 7:00 PM It’s the first time ever that Lorenz Field has hosted night games.

The 16 returnees and six newcomers began the day with lots of paper work and physicals, before hitting the field for the season’s first workout at 4:15 PM.
Daily doubles will begin Tuesday, with morning and afternoon practices slated through Friday.

Salem-News.com Sports (August 11, 2006 12:52)Volcanoes Sweep Series With AquaSox Salem-News.com SPORTS(EVERETT, Wash.) - Salem-Keizer Volcanoes catcher Adam Witter led the charge with his two homeruns and four RBI, as the Volcanoes defeated the Frogs 13-4 Thursday night at Everett Memorial Stadium.
Designated hitter Matt Weston was another key component in the Salem-Keizer going 2-for-3 with 3 RBI. Reliever Steven Calicutt pitched three scoreless innings of one hit ball. He struck out three on his way to his second save.
Left fielder Gavin Dickey went 2-for-4 with a solo homerun while third baseman Leury Bonilla 2-for-4 with two RBI.

Western Oregon University men’s basketball coach Craig Stanger has announced his schedule, a slate that features four NCAA Division I opponents, some longtime local rivals and the always tough Great Northwest Athletic Conference.
The contest with valley rival Willamette, on December 19th at WOU, was added recently to wrap up the schedule. “Gordy's (Willamette coach Gordie James) programs are always solid and we are looking forward to playing them again.”

The Volcanoes hot night was highlighted by a three run homer by centerfielder Michael McBryde in the first inning.
Starter Adam Cowart pitched six scoreless innings, giving up only two hits and seven strikeouts.
