(CORVALLIS) - Matt Ma shot a 3-under 141 to help Oregon jump out to an 11-stroke lead following the first 36 holes of the Northwest Collegiate Classic, played Monday at the 7,040-yard, par-72 Trysting Tree Golf Course.
The Ducks recorded back-to-back rounds of even-par 288 to finish the day at level par 576.
Ma, a senior from Aiea, Hawaii, shot a 67 Monday morning, which was two strokes off his career low set at this tournament two years ago.

(CORVALLIS) - This week’s Lou Groza Collegiate Place-Kicker Award Stars of the Week are Jason Reda of University of Illinois, Kevin Kelly of Penn State, and Alexis Serna of Oregon State. All three of these athletes had impressive performances in earning this week’s honors.
Alexis Serna, Oregon State, last year’s Lou Groza Collegiate Place-Kicker Award Winner blasted a 58-yard field goal against California this past weekend. Currently, that is the longest field goal of the season in college football.

(EUGENE) - Josh Akwenuke, the leading scorer at Lane Community College the past two seasons, has been added as a walk-on to the Oregon men’s basketball roster, coach Ernie Kent announced Monday.
The 6-5, 200-lbs., guard averaged 22.1 points and 7.8 rebounds per game as a sophomore in 2005-06 and 14.0 points and 5.8 rebounds per game as a freshman for the Titans. He was a two-time NWAACC all-region selection.

(NEWBERG) - Led by medalist Leslie Wheeler’s 81, the Linfield College Wildcats captured the first-ever home match in the brief history of George Fox University’s first-year women’s golf program, the George Fox Invitational, Sunday afternoon here at the Chehalem Glenn Golf Course.
Linfield posted a four-player score of 355 on the par 72, 5,818-yard course which opened 15 months ago. As the back nine of the new course will not be open until the summer of 2007, each team played the current nine-hole course twice.

(PORTLAND) - After a scoreless first half, No. 7 Portland came alive to score three goals in the second half and defeat Oregon 3-0 Sunday at Merlo Field.
Three different players scored for the defending NCAA champions. Michelle Enyeart’s goal in the 60th minute broke a scoreless tie. Enyeart’s goal came off a perfect cross from Kendra Chandhoke, who threaded the ball through traffic and to Enyeart for a point-blank finish.

(KANSAS CITY, Kansas) - The roar of Kansas Speedway's sold-out crowd kept most people from hearing Tony Stewart's car run quietly out of fuel on the final lap of Sunday's Banquet 400 presented by ConAgra Foods.
Stewart, a two-time NASCAR NEXTEL Cup champion, said his tank went dry in the second turn, leaving him no choice but to put the No. 20 Home Depot Chevrolet in neutral and coast around the 1.5-mile track.
Stewart was fortunate that he had a 17-second lead heading to the final lap and top challenger Casey Mears was in the same fuel predicament. He ran out in the third turn.

(SALEM) - Four Willamette University players reached double digits in kills and four recorded double-digit digs, but Lewis & Clark slipped past the Bearcats, 30-22, 28-30, 30-20, 24-30, 15-11, in a very competitive Northwest Conference match on Saturday at the Pamplin Sports Center.
Lewis & Clark improved its record to 6-10 overall, 4-2 in the NWC. The Bearcats moved to 3-12 overall, 0-6 in the NWC.
