Busch Wins Subway 500 Pole

Busch's time of 19.408 seconds did not beat the track record of 19.306 seconds set by Tony Stewart last fall.

(MARTINSVILLE, Va.) - nascar carsA former NEXTEL Cup champion and a driver on the comeback trail took the spotlight off the Chase for the NEXTEL Cup in qualifying Friday for Sunday's SUBWAY 500 at Martinsville Speedway.

Kurt Busch, the 2004 NASCAR NEXTEL Cup champion, captured the pole for Sunday's race while Ward Burton, attempting to make his first race in two years, qualified 35th.

Busch's lap of 19.408 seconds (97.568 mph) around the .526-mile oval edged out seven-time Martinsville winner Jeff Gordon by .038 seconds.

Western Oregon Men Fourth, Women Sixth at GNAC’s

Seattle Pacific won the women’s crown and Western Washington captured the men’s meet, with Alaska Anchorage claiming second place in both races.

(LACEY, Wash.) - WO logoWestern Oregon’s men finished fourth and the women were sixth among ten teams today at the Great Northwest Athletic Conference cross country championships at Saint Martin’s University in Lacey, Wash.

David Kiplagat of UAA ran away from all competitors in the men’s field, clocking 24:28 on the eight kilometer course. Sam Scotchmer of Central Washington was second in 24:49. Senior Nick Crawford was WOU’s top finisher in 15th place, with a time of 25:50.

Well, make it 5-straight after the Olympians cruised to a 28-6 win against the Panthers Friday night at Sprague.

The Olympians rushed for 300 yards while the defense held the Panthers to only 73 yards on the ground.

Oregon Tops Oregon State, 2-1 in OT, to Capture Soccer Civil War Battle

The Beavers (8-6-2, 1-4) had won four of the previous five games against Oregon (10-5-1, 4-0-1) in the Civil War.

(EUGENE) - OSU soccerDespite taking a 1-0 lead in the second half, the Oregon State women’s soccer team couldn’t hold on and Oregon rallied for a 2-1 overtime victory in Pacific-10 Conference play on Friday evening at Pape’ Field.

The Beavers looked to be in good shape after junior forward Jodie Taylor scored a goal in the 53rd minute. But the Ducks tied the game in the 67th minute and won it in the 94th.

“We’re disappointed in the manner in which we lost,” OSU Coach Steve Fennah said. “Once we took the lead, we had too many bad clearances and bad giveaways, and that helped Oregon come back.

Coyotes Win Sixth-Straight, Stop Corban, 4-1

The Warriors travel Saturday to Walla Walla, Wash for a match-up with Walla Walla College. Game time is 7:00 PM.

Oregon Overwhelmed by No. 3 Stanford, 3-0

Coming off the stunning upset of No. 8 California, the Ducks could not put together any sort of meaningful charge against the Pac-10's top team.

(STANFORD, Calif.) - Ducks volleyballFoluke Akinradewo and Cynthia Barboza combined for 19 kills as the sophomore duo led the No. 3 Cardinal past the Ducks 3-0 (30-20, 30-18, 30-18), Friday night in Maples Pavillion, ending the longest conference winning streak in school history for Oregon at four games.

A night after five Ducks tallied 10 kills or more, none were able to repeat the feat against the talented Cardinal block.

Oregon Eighth, Oregon State 14, After First Round of Stanford Intercollegiate

Overall, No. 12 Arizona led the 15-team field by seven strokes with its 7-under score of 277 Friday.

(STANFORD, Calif.) - Ducks golfThe University of Oregon women’s golf team stood in a tie for eighth place after Friday’s first round of the Stanford Intercollegiate, hosted by Stanford University on the Stanford Golf Course.

UO’s scoring quartet tallied a 13-over score of 297 Friday, and ranked fourth among the eight Pac-10 teams on hand.

Senior Kim McCready paced the Ducks on the par 71, 5,985-yard course and stood in a tie for 12th overall with her even-71 first round – her fourth round at par or under in 10 rounds of duty this fall.

Oregon Ducks Stun No. 8 Cal

The Ducks (15-3, 5-3) won by scores of 30-28, 13-30, 35-33 and 30-25, taking down Cal (14-5, 3-5) for the first time in 15 tries dating to 1998.

(BERKELEY, Calif.) - Ducks volleyballThe Oregon Ducks are no longer prey for opponents in the top volleyball conference in the NCAA.

Oregon clinched its first winning season since 1990 and won its fourth consecutive Pac-10 match by stunning No. 8 California in four sets on Thursday night at Haas Pavilion.

“You can’t describe the character these kids showed in winning this match,” said second-year head coach Jim Moore. “Cal destroyed us in Game 2 and we stepped up to the challenge.”
